All exhibitors of livestock, goats, and larger animals are
eligible to be considered for this award.
Experience in 4-H or age will not be a factor.
The Herdsmanship Award selection committee will be determined
by the 4-H Agent, Livestock Superintendent, and Fair Board
President; prior to start of the Fair. Exhibitors and leaders will not
be aware of the members of the selection committee. Observation
will occur randomly, throughout the Fair, starting with the time of
livestock entry.
The purpose of this award is to recognize a youth who consistently
demonstrates excellence in the following areas. These are not
necessarily listed in order of importance:
1. Personal behavior consistent with the values stated in the 4-H
motto.
2. Compliance with livestock rules and regulations.
3. Knowledge of livestock being exhibited.
4. Care of livestock being exhibited.
5. Cooperation in maintenance of barn area.
6. Willingness to assist other exhibitors in care or protection of
their livestock.
7. Rapport with and courtesy toward public in the livestock exhibit
area.
8. Attentiveness to and respect for livestock superintendents,
parents, and leaders.
